PowerMac G5 won't boot... Fans Going Nuts
Hey,
I have a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0/2GB RAM/250GB HDD Late 2005 Model. I'm trying to get the computer to boot so that I can re-install the system. Unfortunately, what I do get after I turn the power on, are 2 Low Tone beeping noises and the Fans going crazy. After that, I don't get anything on my screen. It's all black. Is there anyone that might know what the problem may be? ![]() Please advise or let me know what other information you need from me to better help me. Thanks for your time. Jenamorado |

I'm pretty sure two beeps indicate there is a problem with the memory and the sticks have failed the memory test.
Have you installed more Ram lately ? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547 If you have recently installed a new stick, try taking it out and restarting. If not and you have more than one stick, try taking one out or swapping positions with each stick. The other thing I would do is remove all peripherals except for the keyboard and mouse and try again to boot up. You should also look at replacing the little PRAM battery. They are supposed to only have a useable life of about four years even though I have a couple six and seven years old and still running I would also reset the PRAM. 1. Shut down the computer. 2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4. 3. Turn on the computer. 4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. 5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time. 6. Release the keys. Your computer's PRAM is reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models. Stewie Last edited by stewiesno1; 03-02-2009 at 06:07 PM. Reason: Typos again |
