IBook won't boot
Hi!
I'm confronted with the following problem: my iBook 14" won't boot anymore. If I bring it up with the hardware diagnosis CD, everything is fine, and the tests run through okay. But when I insert the OSX install DVD, it gets stuck. (There's currently no OS installed.) Sometimes the screen turns blue as if the system would come up, but then it gets stuck too. I tried a PMU reset, and a POST reset. But the results stay the same. Please help! Yours, Kurt |

The hardware diagnosis CD may not be able to tell if the optical drive is damaged, or whether it just needs a good clean. Or if the DVD disk itself is scratched or dirty.
Try another disk; try a CD drive cleaner disk; try booting in Target mode, connected to another Mac. |

Exactly what OS X Install DVD are you using? Please tell us in detail what it says on the face.
Does your iBook 14" have a DVD drive? Putting a DVD into a drive that can only read CDs won't get you very far. Exactly which iBook 14" is it? Please be detailed. Why doesn't the iBook 14" have any OS installed on it? Trevor

It's the 10.4 Install DVD.
The drive has a sticker on it that reads "Combo Drive", so it can read DVDs. It's a 14" iBook with a 933MHz CPU. I don't know why there's no OS on it, since it's actually the computer of a friend of mine. I did some research and found out about the "fan of death": "http://www.coreyarnold.org/ibook/" I'll figure out if it's this issue, since I already have the computer disassembled. Yours, Kurt |
