MBP Screen Tearing
My brother's Macbook Pro (core duo, not core 2 duo, running latest OS X) has a problem where the graphics sometimes "tear" and "plane" across his screen. He thought it might be a video card problem, but Grab actually kept screenshots of the tearing (screenshot upload soon).
This has happened amid several other problems with the machine, such as the video card drivers (in Boot Camp with Vista/XP) constantly resetting/cycling whenever they receive the slightest amount of pressure (Aero theme, 3D graphics) until the system bluescreens. However, the OS X screen-tearing problem is the most pressing at the moment, and I was hoping some of you would know how to help! Any ideas? |

check apple site for a recall on torn screens...
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM Shut down the computer. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4. Turn on the computer. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time. Release the keys. Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models. |

I'll get him to try that. In the meantime, some more quick info: while this problem initially occurred no matter what was open, it now seems to occur most often when "Warcraft III" is open.
And yeah, I looked into that video card recall, but that seems to be for newer models with NVIDIA cards. (That might explain why MY computer (which is such a model) had a screen blackout and had to be sent in a while ago. But enough of that. )
