data CDs not recognized by CD drive

Why is it that 90% of the time whenever I put a data CD into the CD drive, my MBP won't recognise it, and will eject it after some time? I never have any problems with audio CDs.

What burned the data CDs? Were they burned on a PC using proprietary formatting?

It could be as simple as the brand of the CD.
When you say audio CD are you talking about CD-R or Audio CD's bought from a store ?
There are some drives that simply don't work with some cheap no-name cds

proprietary formatting? what's that?

when i say audio cds, i mean cd albums from stores..

i can't even burn blank cds sometimes... even brands like imation don't work...

when i put in the cd, the drive kicks it out. i insert, it kicks it out again.

AND when i put in the LEOPARD INSTALLATION cd, it gets kicked out too.

weird?

Ah, so the problem is NOT confined to burned data CDs, but it also is seen on pressed data CDs. In that case, first try a CD cleaning disc, available from any competent electronics or computer store for not very much money. Clean your drive, then try again. If it still isn't working properly, replace the drive. If your MacBook Pro is still under Applecare, have the drive replaced under warranty.
