Realtime Server Monitoring

Hi Guys,

just looking for a bit of advice.......we have a CRM system that accepts emailed alerts from Windows boxes that are monitored in realtime.....the Windows realtime monitoring emails out when alerts are received (services go down etc)....now, i know there is the Server Monitor, but as far as I'm aware, you'll have to watch this constantly (like a kind of 'what's up' scenario)....I'm wondering if anybody knows of a solution that monitors email/services/network connections etc. and emails (or more preferable sms') alerts?

Thank thee kindly ladels and mentalmen....

And if you don't want, or can't have, an instance of server monitor running at all times, I recommend a solution like Nagios. Install it on a server, configure it, and you're done.

Nagios is insanely powerful out of the box, and awesomely flexible. It's really just a glorified command executor (but that's the best part).

It can be daunting to configure at first, but don't fret! It'll be your best friend if you stick to it.
It can output results via any method you can do via a command/executable. E-mail, jabber, web, SMS (if you have a provider/API capable of doing it), etc.

server monitor requires a certain port to be open on your network though for it to work. I can't recall off the top of my head what port it uses (246 or something like that 226??). I just had my cicso guy add all the OS X servers to his active status, it will ping each server every 30 minutes and if it gets no response it emails you a failure alert.

I think it is called "active xperts" or something to that effect
