Obscene iPhone prices in Norway

.
NetCom (TeliaSonera) released details of their three "iTalk packages" today, and reactions here are unanimously negative. Take this on for size:

Small
100 minutes
100 SMS
100 MB
Monthly fee: USD 80
iPhone price 8GB: USD 280
iPhone price 16GB: USD 450

Medium
250 minutes
250 SMS
250 MB
Monthly fee: USD 140
iPhone price 8GB: USD 140
iPhone price 16GB: USD 300

Large
1000 minutes
1000 SMS
1000 MB
Monthly fee: USD 220
iPhone price 8GB: USD 0.20 (20 cents)
iPhone price 16GB: USD 170

No plan with unlimited data use. Let’s face it, one gigabyte ain’t that much. And the cost for exceeding the plane? A whopping USD 2 per MB!

I don’t see how Apple can live with a partner gouging their joint customers in this way. On the forum of Norway’s largest daily, the response is 99% negative.

Apple’s iPhone 3G sales in Norway just came to a screeching halt before they even started.

Since I can only read the numbers it is hard to say for sure, but the iPhone appears relatively cheap compared to their other offers. Are they generally an expensive carrier compared to others?

cwt, those numbers I quoted are already converted to US dollars!
USD = $

do you want me to send over a UK model on 'pay as you go' ?

seriously... if they are affordable in the UK I will buy one... possibly two... but if they are no cheaper than the iPhone1 I will stick with my aging Nokia.

.
In other words, $ 220 per month for a plan that doesn’t have unlimited (or even a particularly high) data transfer/Internet use. I think that’s more than a bit steep.

Of course here in the US we can't even get the Obscene iPhone. Only the standard nonprurient model is available.

LOL.
It goes on sale here on 11 July, same as in the USA, UK, and I believe a total of 22 countries. No special privileges. After which the non-prurient (or perhaps prurient?) 1G model will no longer be available anywhere –– if anybody still even has it stock.

Whoah, Photek -- that’s a long ways just to eat some Freedom Fries.

I suggest you give someone you trust your $ 299, plus a $ 99 handling and queuing fee.

Either way... back in reality... I suspect I wont buy an iPhone... I am too much of a skin flint... I spend approx. £30 (€38) a year on my personal phone

TeliaSonera’s obscenity is making headlines

.
Here is what a few others are writing about Norwegian iPhone pricing plans.

First AppleInsider, and second The iPhone Blog, just to mention two.
