iTunes interfering with realplayer download

I am finding that under 10.1.2 with the latest version of iTunes, whenever I open a realaudio news interview sound link in Explorer, which is set in the Explorer preferences to use Realplayer as it should, after downloading the file iTunes opens instead of Realplayer when I click on the downloaded file, but of course then does not play the interview.

In iTunes preferences there is no obvious way to get rid of this interference with another application. There does appear to be a button setting iTunes as a preferred internet download link in iTunes preferences but once set it cannot be unset. I never actually used it though so I'm stumped.

It might be a filetype ownership issue. I use neither Realplayer nor iTunes (Audion is way slicker IMHO), but this is the first thing I'd try...

Click on the file in the Finder and show info (apple-I). Go to the 'Open with application' pane and see what it says to use; if it's not RealAudio, pick it from the dropdown menu (if it's there, or use the 'other...' option in the dropdown and find it), then hit the 'Change All' button.

Brilliant: that fixed it first time. Somehow or other iTunes had overriden the Explorer preferences without it showing up there and insinuated itself into the process. Thank you very much.
