AirPort Extreme firmware update 7.3.1: constant error
When attempting the AirPort Extreme firmware update 7.3.1 (for some time now), I invariably get the error message "There was an error connecting to the update server. Check your network settings and try again." Neither of the hints or discussions below seem helpful:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1218 http://discussions.apple.com/thread....62094&tstart=0 My MacBook Pro is connected directly to the AirPort Extreme (n) via ethernet (I've also tried wireless). The AirPort is the LAN router, and connects directly to the cable modem. What might I be missing? Where might I look? Thanks, M. |

Oh, my. I finally connected the dots with some other installation problems I've been having. I may have a corrupted OS X install. When I ran the AirPort firmware update from a clone of the original installation, it ran flawlessly. So tomorrow is reinstall day.

I don't know, I did the firmware upgrade (though I'm not sure why I wasn't prompted until June for this), I have a Mac Pro with the same setup, and the thing doesn't work.
I have, coincidentally, a spare airport extreme, and it is still on firmware 7.2.1, and it works fine. Airport Utility acts like it can't see the Extreme, it won't connect to it even with an ethernet connection, totally dead, totally frustrating. Even after holding in the reset pin with a paperclip, and reinstalling name and network, it still doesn't work. I think there's a problem with the firmware. |

I've got the same setup, and had the update 7.3.1 kill the airport extreme.
I think there's a bug in the update. But don't know why I wasn't prompted to upgrade before mid June. And don't know why it just seems to be me. |

Perhaps to put your mind at ease a bit, it may be the update process that's screwing up -- I have an AirPort Extreme (802.11n) running 7.3.1 and it works very well as both a wired (for a nearby machine) and wireless router (for my laptop). I'm using AirPort Utility 5.3.2.
