Question Where did localhost/home drive come from?

Let me start by saying I have Finder set to view hidden files and folders. I just noticed what looks like a blue external hard drive with three stick figures on it labeled home (see the pic of the info screen). It's path is file://localhost/home/. Is this file hidden on every desktop? I don't recall seeing it there since I started viewing hidden files, but I'm not the most observant person. Did I accidentally create it or move it from somewhere else? Does anyone know its function?

Clicking above should take you to pic hosted at image shack. Sorry if it doesn't work--haven't tried it before.

Another one!

Me again:

Now there's one with the path "file//localhost/net/". I know this one just showed up. I'm more curious than concerned here.

I can't find the "definitive" web page about /home and /net (anyone?),
but this blog has an article [in 2 parts] which might help some:
