How to clean install Firefox?
My Firefox recently hit a web page that put it into a beachball of death freeze, and my Firefox hasn't been the same. Something seems to be corrupt and I'd like to make a "clean" install of it, wiping out all old preferences etc.
This happened once before and overwriting the application solved the spinning beachballs, but no luck this time. I even installed the new Firefox 3 Beta, but the same web pages are crashing Firefox. (ESPN is one of them -- and it had no problems in the past) How can I clean up Firefox? Thanks. |

The profile is in /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
I suggest renaming the folder to firefox old and then restart firefox. You can also in Firefox itself clear cache, cookies etc. in the preferences. Also it is not advised to try and run Firefox 2 and 3 with the same profile as they are some major change sin Firefox 3 which could corrupt your Firefox 2 data. |

Worked for me too.
I found this page by Googling for Mac Firefox clean install. My problem was the address bar would not display the address. Pages would load, but the page loading indicator never turned off. My bookmarks were not visible. I made the suggested fix, and everything works fine now.
Thanks for easy solution. |
