How to convert mp4 to play on iPhone

I handbraked a DVD and chose the setting for the iphone. (maybe i did it wrong). But what I was left with was a mp4. I brought the mp4 into itunes and then attempted to synch with my iphone, but it came up with an error saying Iphones cannot play this type of file.

What do I do

You could try iSquint. It's made to convert videos for the iPod, but I think the iPod and iPhone are using the same formats, so it should work It worked great for me

Movie to iPhone

I ending up using the latest version of Handbrake and used the iPhone preset and all worked well.

or you may want to try to right click the movie file in itunes and convert it to ipod/iphone format.

4 out of the five movies I've tried to convert for the iPhone using iTunes as the converter won't sync. I've had some problems with some other conversion apps as well. And that's using the same settings as far as filetype, size, and bit rate go. I'm giving Visual hub a try now. Anyone else having this problem. Even the iPhone preset is failing regularly.

Thanks for the link on iSquint, it worked for me on some Simpson's episodes where iTunes failed horribly.

i'm using iConvert which i fount at http://villemobile.com/mobile-games/...erter-147.html. It converts rm and other video streams to mp4 and work well for my iPod touch. the website also has free online converter at http://villemobile.com/video-convert-mp4.php, but it takes too much time to wait for the mp4 back to you.

Red face Found an answer!

I had a problem trying to sync an mp4 file -- I got a "format not supported" message. Checked other forums and found a solution:

1. Use HandBrake to convert unprotected DVD to mp4. After selecting the Source, click Toggle Presets on the menu and select iPhone/iPod Touch, then Start.

2. After conversion, in iTunes, File|Add to Library the converted DVD movie. Then click your iPhone under Devices. In the Video tab, under Movies, check the Sync movies and the movie you added. Sync.

That did it! Hope this helps.

but because they are not formatted for the iPhone I cannot use them. Is there another app out there that can convert it down to the iphone?

I used isquint, it convertified' the files, but they still wont go to the iphone. I drag them over, but when i sync..nothing. There is a program called "Air Sharing" that I think might work but it always "times out" on longish files"Works great on text, pdf etc. But mp4s rmain elusive unless I actually get them from iTunes, or a legit podcast. Then they play. SOmeone suggetsed a "smart playlist" I think this might work but not sure how to config it to "force" movie into playlist.

i prefer Nidesoft for its clear converting image and fast speed. The most important thing is that it is easy to use, especially for beginners. If you are interested, you can see its sites and make further comparison. I usually visit http://www.nidesoft.com you can have a try.

There is a freeware called Handbrake, it can convert MP4 and play it on iPhone.

But I don't thinks freeware is always stable and safe.

I had real problems as well. I had converted my DVDs in Handbrake and used correct settings.2 movies went straight to ipod, the other 4 didn't yet all settings were the same.
I went to info on movies and filled in Artists name, tried again to sync and it still wouldn't work. I then converted the MP4 movies in itunes: highlight the movie, go to Advanced on toolbar and choose convert for ipod or iphone, then remember to check the new movies to sync. It worked for me.....
