startup sound problem

I need to mute the startup buzz sound from the macbook. I tried using many of the softwares available on the internet (ex:archana etc...), but none works. Also I tried holding the mute button when booting, that doesn't help as well.
Am using os x 10.4. Any suggestions??

Are you connected to an external amplifier? Is your MacBook's supply using the extension (grounded) cord rather than the 2-prong adapter?

I am using the 2 prong adapter only and am not using any external amplifier.
