Safari won't launch
Hello -
I recently upgraded my PowerBook G4 to Leopard (10.5.1). I can no longer launch Safari. The dock icon bounces, then closes. A window appears reading, "The application Safari quit unexpectedly...."; and provides options to Ignore, Report, Relaunch. I have already trashed the preferences.plist, history.plist, bookmarks.plist, and downloads.plist files. These actions have not solved the problem. Relevant Console messages are as follows: 1/16/08 10:04:41 AM com.apple.launchd[127] ([0x0-0xc60c6].com.apple.Safari[884]) Exited abnormally: Trace/BPT trap 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Could not connect the action showFindPanel: to target of class AppController 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Could not connect the action findPrevious: to target of class AppController 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Could not connect the action importBookmarksAfterChoosingFile: to target of class BookmarksController 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Could not connect the action exportBookmarks: to target of class BookmarksController 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Could not connect the action findNext: to target of class AppController 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] *** Assertion failure in -[NSMenu removeItem:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-949/Menus.subproj/NSMenu.m:702 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] An uncaught exception was raised 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Invalid parameter not satisfying: item != nil 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid parameter not satisfying: item != nil' 1/16/08 10:05:02 AM Safari[889] Stack: ( 2433130304, 2518107820, 2433130064, 2439429736, 2475639932, 14400, 2433186644, 2475495512, 2476577620, 2475458632, 2475457500, 2475456708, 11540 ) 1/16/08 10:05:15 AM com.apple.launchd[127] ([0x0-0xc80c8].com.apple.Safari[889]) Exited abnormally: Trace/BPT trap Thanks for your help. Are you now, or have you in the past, used any Safari "plugins" at all?
If you create a brand new user and log into it, does Safari crash in that new user? Are you running the version of Safari bundled with Leopard, or another one (such as a nightly build)? Have you installed a nightly build in the past, say when you were still on Tiger? Is Safari in your /Applications folder? Or somewhere else? Trevor

Hello Trevor -
Safari is in my applications folder. I actually rarely use Safari, and I haven't installed anything other than what OS X Leopard placed on my computer, or whatever was left from Tiger and the standard software updates. Nor have I installed any 3rd party applications, though I could be mistaken. I also created a guest user account, logged into that, and Safari still won't work (provides the same error message). |
