WD500 Netcenter volume disappeared

Since one and a half year I have this WD500 net center attached to my airport extreme.
I've used up to 390GB and wanted to use even more, until...
I tried to copie a DVD-file and it errored. After trying several times the disk was unmountable. A few restarts later I could ping it again and aproach it via safari browser. But no volume anymore and the diskmanagment service told me there was 500GB available.
Bad news!
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get to all my "disappeared" files?
How to retrieve them without losing content?
Help!
