Can I use BBEdit to edit newsyslog.conf

I'm following up on "Allow the system.log file to be rotated daily," a hint from a couple of days ago. Is there any reason not to use BBEdit rather than vi to make the suggested change? It appears that BBEdit can unlock, edit, authenticate and save the file, "newsyslog.conf." But will it still work Thanks - musselrock

yes, BBedit, or TextWrangler, or any text editor that allows you to save in plain text format (be wary of TextEdit, which prefers to save in rich text) works just fine. I always use TextWrangler to edit conf files myself. vi gets recommended a lot here because we have a lot of old unix-heads hanging around who are used to it. I can't stand vi, personally. I always feel (to paraphrase Mr Spock) like I am trying to program using stone knives and bearskins.

me, I treat my computer like I treat my relationships: I try to avoid issuing commands wherever possible.
