Anything (PDFs, bittorrent files, etc) I download off the web to look at in
Preview gets deposited on my desktop. Sometimes if I don't stay after it, the whole desktop can be filled with them! I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.7 and Tiger 10.4.10. I know this is probably a stupid one, and I did check several forums and googles to no avail, but is there any setting (Firefox or Tiger) to either not have the download saved at all or saved to some other location. It's a pain in the butt to go back and houseclean and to have to open every file up to look at it, then decide to move or delete it. Not to mention the memory that is supposedly sucked up on the desktop for each one of these . Thanks in advance |

If you look in Firefox's preferences, the setting for where to save downloads is right in the first pane.

Yes, I have most downloads set up through Firefox to go to a particular folder.
But the pdf files that I open with Preview are by default, I guess, are saved to the desktop. Any way to change the location they are saved, or to not save at all if I'm just looking at the pdf and its nothing I want to save. Also bittorrent files get saved to the desktop AND the folder location I set up through Azureus. Any fix for that- i.e.- just save it once to the folder location I set up. TIA for any replies. |

I have the same problem in Leopard. All my downloads are supposed to go to my Downloads folder. I've tried a clean install of firefox and that does not help. Any solutions?

I had the same problem!
I found a solution in a replay from kerouassady (thanks ) in the Thread: Mimic Firefox for Windows' handling of Open With... Thu, Dec 21 '06 at 7:30AM PST • Submitted by Anonymous http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...61220141355424 The Firefox add-on 'OpenDownload' (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/207) maybe isn't the most elegant solution, but it worked for me (even if I still don't know where the files are saved ).P.S.: I have the same problem with Thunderbirds attachements, still searching for a solution...

This is a Firefox-Leopard problem. The magic trick is to delete the com.apple.internetconfig.plist and use Firefox 2.009 or later. Drove me nuts for awhile.

We are running OS X (not sure what flavor) on our MacBooks at school. Some of the MacBooks save everything on the desktop. We would like to keep the desktop clean and have downloads default to a documents or download folder. We can't find anything in the Apple menu (It does not seem to have a Control Panel or General Controls options).
Can anyone help? Thanks |

I found the answer here:
http://rbtech.blogspot.com/2007/09/f...op-on-osx.html Apparently, the folder used to save files when selecting "Open" is set in Safari. So if you change the download folder in Safari everything will be fine. Go figure. |
