Ways to get around limited access restrictions
I go to a highschool that allows students to use MacBooks but they have made our account limited user. Naturally me and my ticked off friends try to find ways around the restrictions with what were given. To start of I would like to state that this IS my computer and the information I seek is for non destructive purposes. I'll start off with what programs aren't blocked because of our tech centers lack of intelligence. Almost all applications have been blocked exept the obvious (firefox, word, etc.) the one usefull tool that has been left left open is automator. Using automator we have been able to gain access to all other programs. What I am trying to do today is figure out whether i can establish ssh connection over the school server to connect with my friends computers. The only trouble is i cant alter the sharing preferences to allow connections. So i was wondering if there was a way to change preferences using terminal.
I'm open to any recomendation on fun stuff we can do with whats available to us and the only perameters are that we can't get caught... (as bad as that makes what i'm doing sound it really is just borderline against the rules "Thanks, -Nick Meyer |

Hi Nick,
Sorry, but it's the policy of this forum not to help people get around security structures set in place by the administrator of a computer or a network, even when those security structures seem pointless or trivial. So we can't help you. Also, I'd caution you to think carefully about what you're doing. This really is not your computer, even if you have possession of it--it's owned by the school. In some cases high school students have had some pretty serious charges brought against them for doing things like what you and your friends are already doing. When a school board is ignorant of what computers are and do, they may hear that you've "hacked" into your school-owned computers and drastically overreact. It's happened before and it's likely to happen again. I hope it does not happen with you. Good luck. Thread locked. Trevor
