Question Dead memory stick?

Hey guys,

My 2GB Samsung memory stick has been playing up recently and has now become read-only, and unformattable by Disk Utility - all the buttons in the 'Erase' tab are greyed out .....

Is there anything I can do to save it? Fortunately there's no valuable data on it .... but it's annoying nonetheless

Cheers,

David

USB flash drives are very popular in the schools where I work. They fail like this all the time. There are many articles on tech pages (Google for them) but few work reliably. About the only failure mode that has a good chance of repair is if it is the lock switch that has failed. These switches are not common any more so I don't like your chances.

Have you tried it on at least 2 computers? If so, save your data and get a new stick. Yep, these things are fussy sometimes so I just get the cheap ones.

You can also use the ipod as a flash drive.

Thanks for the feedback

I'm glad I had nothing vital on there at the time ....

This one's served me well for a few years and the prices have really fallen recently
