iPhone WiFi question:

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set the iPhone to auto-logon to the strongest available signal? Or is it always a manual process?

TIA

I would imagine so, but my question is really only about wifi, not the GPRS option. I have access to many free wifi nets here in Thailand and I may not need to buy a GPRS package if the iPhone can be set to "iStumble"...

Gavin,

You can set "Ask to Join Networks" on or off.

If you have it on, the message in the settings window reads "Known networks will be joined automatically. If no known networks are available, you will be asked before joining a new network."

If you have it off, the message reads "Known networks will be joined automatically. If no known networks are available, you will have to manually select a network."

I hope that that answers your question, but if it doesn't please explain further.

Trevor

That's magic trevor, clear as can be. As usual.

Notwithstanding my statement in an earlier thread, I cracked and have an iPhone inbound from Colorado Springs, due Friday. It was the price cut that did it. I mean, where can you get a wifi pda of that quality and capability, for four hundred bucks?? I will put up with the handful of shortcomings, as I am sure they will be addressed in future updates.

Excellent! Welcome to the iPhone club!

Let us know what you think when you get it.

Trevor

P.S. By the way, a native stumbler application has been independently (i.e. without Apple's cooperation) released for the iPhone, and it is installable automatically over the air using Nullriver Software's Installer program.

You betcha! I am sure I will have plenty of opinions and not-terribly-well-thought-out questions...

That looks like a useful app, downloading now.

What about this then? Looks like unlocking an iPhone could get you 25 years here in the Land of Smiles!
