Burning CD/DVD in multiple sessions

I want to burn photos to a cd/dvd in multiple sessions with different file names until the disk is full. Can someone tell me what the best disk format is for doing this ie., -r, -rw, +r, +rw ????? Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. BTW, I am using os x 10.4.10. Thank you in advance.

Any of them will be fine. + or - is a question of what your drive is compatible with, modern drives should do both. Multi-sessions were created to deal with cd-r, not cd-rw. The next session replaces the first, optionally including the previous session's files. You can treat a cd-rw essentially as a giant floppy disc.

... Except for modifying or deleting files already burned to the disk. You can add another session, but you can't change whatever has already been burned to the disk. Of course, being a rewrite-able disk, you can erase the whole disk. This doesn't exactly work as simply as using a floppy. I prefer USB flash drives for that type of operation.
And DVDs really don't do multi-session reliably.

UDF format the CD-RW and it WILL behave like a giant floppy. It gets preformatted with empty blocks which can be overwritten. You don't need to erase the entire disc. All the memorabilia of floppies - delicate, heat-sensitive, slow etc. etc. With 1Gb flash drives readily available for less than $100 and my iPod holding way more than that we need to ask "why", but it's certainly possible.

_8_GB flash drives are easily available for less than $100, even less than $75 - but I get your point. (and, makes trying to use 'all the space' on a CD/DVD-R even less valuable)

Thank you for the replies. Very good points about the flash drives, I will have to give some serious thought to them.

And here I am still using the 8Mb one I bought way back when. Cost about the same, too.
