Free eyeTV?
Hi,
I have been reading a lot recently about Virtual DVHS and recording HDTV on a Mac via Firewire using simple software and a cord. All I want to do is watch TV on my 24" iMac without cluttering my desk with a regular television right next to it and it seems like this is not a viable solution (record something for a half hour, then watch it back?) EyeTV or a 3rd party solution seems to be the only option. However, EyeTV is using a USB connection. Shouldn't there be a way to take advantage of the Firewire connection on my HD box? If Virtual DVHS can encode in real time, why not display at the same time. Is this in development? Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, Ethan |

update: after checking it out, i've found that you can play the movie file as it is recording, so in essense if you just use AVCVideoCap to start recording you can watch live TV on your mac on about a 5 second delay. I would like to see a developer come out with a friendlier interface similar to eyeTV software that included a channel changer and not needing to have a ridiculous amount of space in order to not stop and delete out the video you have already seen, because it is now clear that firewire has the ability to change channels on the set top box. why anyone with digital cable would buy an eyeTV is beyond me now that i know all this.
