Moneydance 1/2 Universal

I've been looking for a substitute for Quicken since Quicken isn't Universal and slowed down my Intel Mac.

I downloaded and evaluated over a dozen applications including Cashbox, Money, EZMoney, iBank, My Checkbook, Checkbook, Organize, Simply Checking, My MoneyMinder, Corona, EasyMoney, VisualMoney, Accounts, and Moneydance.

Some are beautiful well-written programs but just don't do all that I want. EZMoney, for example, is delightful to use but lacks the "scheduled transactions" feature which I find useful. Cashbox is exquisite in may ways, but doesn't total categories; Splasm's checkbook doesn't handle multiple or "split" categories; Jumsoft's Money doesn't help you reconcile... Some of these programs were written by brilliant young people who promptly answered my questions.

Moneydance does everything I need, so far as I can tell. (I'm still trying it out while using Quicken on my old iBook.) But, although it advertises itself as Universal, Moneydance will show as PPC in the Get Info Box. I asked their support people about this and their reply is quoted below.

"Thats a very confusing bit about Moneydance. Moneydance itself is in fact universal, but the launcher for the program is not. So you have fully native speeds while running the program.

The launcher will eventually become universal, but some things for that transition are still missing."

It doesn't appear to slow down my MacBook like Quicken did. I'm not sure what is meant by the "launcher." Interestingly the application Quits when I close it with the red dot. I have it set to remain in the Dck, and the little triangle goes away when I close its screen.

So, I am sharing my findings about checkbook programs, and soliciting your opinions about Moneydance, particularly the PPC launcher's impact on Intel Macs.
