Setting up Mail to replace Entourage with Exchange

Hi, I'm trying to set up Mail.app to work with my company's Exchange server and stop using Entourage, but I'm having trouble with Mail's settings.

I recently joined here and IT had told me they don't support the Mac, and claimed that they have disabled the Mac protocols on the network (whatever that means).

Nevertheless, I managed to get Entourage to work by looking up the basic settings in Outlook on a colleague's machine. This is what I entered in Entourage:

- E-mail address: myname@mycompany.com
- Domain: mycompany.ad.pri (very odd, but in Outlook the server was listed as SERV.mycompany.ad.pri)
- Exchange server: https://mail.company.com/exchange (the Outlook Web Access address)
- DAV service SSL checkbox is checked

I can send and receive email with Entourage, but I would much prefer using Mail. However, I tried many different combinations for Mail's settings (Incoming Mail Server, and Outlook Web Access Server) but I get the same error every time:

The Exchange server “SERV.mycompany.ad.pri” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field...

Can anyone help me with this? My next challenge will be to set up AddressBook to access the Exchange global address book, but for now getting Mail to work would be a nice break.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. I was able to successfully get set up in Entourage, but no luck with Mail (and no help from our IT person, who has not set up Exchange on Mail before either).

In the setup, it times out looking for the incoming mail server. If I continue through to the outgoing setup (without fixing), it times out there as well.

the key thing I found I needed to do was to use the servers IP instead of its name.... the server port is 25 with no SSL.
Exchange or IMAP both work for me.

I made a bit of progress, but not much.

I had been working remotely, and today I tried from the office.

I got the same error on the incoming mail server. I chose to continue the set up and to my surprise didn't get any error on the outgoing mail server (the server name with no authentication).

So now I am able to send emails from Mail.app when I'm in the office (and behind the company firewall, I assume). However, receiving emails isn't working, and still no access whatsoever from outside the office.

Is it possible that Mail.app still can't match Entourage as an Exchange client, even for basic email?

What about the incoming mail server, do you have it set up in any special way?
