Headless Azureus under OS X - how?

I have seen instructions for running Azureus in headless/daemon mode under Windows and Linux, but had no luck adapting the instructions for OS X. This is not specifically related to the Java interface sucking cycles - I know all the hints and tips for that. I want to write a guide to using Azureus for people who use VoiceOver or need software to use the accessibility API for other reasons - Java interfaces are not accessible, so using the console interface or one of the web ones is the only option.
