Mail 1.2.2 Problems

Hi, my sis is using OS X 10.2.2 on her iMac 500, and she's been having strange probs with Mail unexpectedly quitting on her. This usually happens when she clicks the "Reply" button. She's not having any problems with other apps, it just seems to be Mail.. any suggestions?

TIA!

Is that a reply to any message or just some? I'm wondering if it might be something about the original message that's causing a problem.

Try the usual delete the mail prefs strategy... [in home folder-> Library -> Preferences-> com.apple.mail.plist]

If the above strategy doesn't work try replying to another message.

I believe it's just some messages -- it happens at random, and not too often, but often enough to be really annoying. That's a good idea, about something in some emails, but I doubt that would really be the problem, or else why does Mail work for everyone else? lol :P

I thought of the preferences delete, but I was looking for another way or another suggestion, so she wouldn't need to go to all the trouble of setting it up again :P (She's at college, so I can't exactly help her directly either)

Thanks for your help!

Mail has worked well enough (for me) that I use it as my default OS X mail client.

my experiences

ive had lots of windows open, either on the dock or just open and visible, hitting the reply button can more often then not cause a crash.
temp solution, switch to say finder soon after you hit reply, mail needs less processing power to create the new window.
better still, i found that with little or no windows open, mail behaves itself again, with a few exceptions.
i get some emails, specifically from a company called iprofile
if i hit reply to them, something about there emails can still cause my mail to crash, its something to do with the content, which doesnt get included if the reply actually works. solution, dont reply to those messages!
not much help i know but at least she knows shes not alone and maybe if she bears in mind about the amount of windows, it might crash less.

good luck

Wow Clive, you sure are a Threadromancer, as in, bringing back old threads from the dead. I'm hoping that bluefire has worked out his problems by now..

Looks like he was making a lighthearted observation on the amount of time that passed between your post and the one prior...note the smiley emoticon there: it signifies that he was kidding with ya.

damn, wrong thread
its ok anyway, i didnt take it as a slight
i was searching for something else
yes it was an old thread, i just have also experienced mail crashing and i didnt see anyone giving help to this thread, its the first time ive posted to someone else's thread, the first time when i felt i could provide an answer, rather than always asking for help, i like to give back, when i can.

maybe the thread was dead, but anyone else that haves problems will at least see one possible solution

anyway, no need to say more on the subject
