new harddrive > "Select a Destination"

hi all,
i have just went through a lengthy process of installing a new harddrive into a G3 ibook.
now i have put the case back together and started to install a fresh copy of osx10.4 on it.
during installation, the new hd does not appear under the "Select a Destination" process.
i take it that i was suppose to fromat it first, however, i really prefer not to take it apart again..
so, is there away for me to do it with a fresh disk?
greatly appreciated.

You can format it without taking anything apart. In your OS X 10.4.x Install disc, select "Disk Utility" from one of the pulldown menus, then go to the 'Erase' tab, give your drive a name, and format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

Which G3 iBook is it?
