Unhappy iTunes + Network = problems

I've got a G4/2x800 with almost nothing on it except my music collection. When using the network to download a file while playing music with iTunes (sometimes it will even happen when loading a page in IE), the sound gets static-y and drops out. It doesn't seem to just be iTunes, though, because when I'm in the terminal and the bell rings, sometimes it'll go static-y there, too.

I brought the thing in for repair on an unrelated item (hard drive died), and they replaced essentially everything except the case, the memory and the power supply, yet the problem still exists.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I assume you've upgraded to 10.1.2? There was a pre-10.1.2 problem on DP machines with iTunes skipping, which is covered in this KBase article. But the only solution they list is upgrading to 10.1.2. If you're already on 10.1.2, I don't have any other advice...sorry!
