Cool Got Gimp...were's X11?

So I just downloaded the shareware image editing program Gimp, and apparently it need the program X11 on my computer to run at the same time. It says that X11 is located in the optional installs package on the OSX intstall disk. Well as far as i know i don't have any OSx disks so when I download X11 here:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...formacosx.html

it say i can't install it because newer software is already available. Well spotlight can find any "newer X11" and Gimp wont run without it, so I've come to a bit of a standstill. Any help would be superb.

Thanks

Check Applications/Utilities for X11. If it isn't there does anyone know if it violates any sort of EULA to post a link to the package installer?

That link is X11 for Panther OS X 10.3.x. The X11 for Tiger OS X 10.4.x is on Install discs.

You report not having an Install disc--that's not a very safe position to be in. The Install disc is necessary for a lot of troubleshooting. You should get an Install disc. It's been reported here that you can get your computer's original Install disc from Apple as a replacement part for a nominal fee. Otherwise, you can buy one on places such as ebay. Just make sure to get either a Full Install DVD, or at minimum one marked specifically for your exact model computer.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't think it violates any EULA to link to an installer, as X11 is open source.

That's what I was thinking. I'll try to remember to post up an X11 package link tomorrow morning for you Zumpa. I'm assuming you are running Tiger; PPC or Intel?

Note that I would never advise downloading programs from people you only know from forums such as this one. I would only advise downloading programs from trusted sources.

kainewynd2, I thought that you meant that you were going to link to an external, trusted source. Even though in all likelihood your intentions are completely honorable, because this kind of thing could be a possible vector for an exploit of someone else's machine, we've all got to be a bit paranoid. I'd rather that you didn't post a link to any application installer hosted on your own server space here.

Good point.

I don't think that that X11 installer is bundled anywhere else...

Any other ideas?

I just read that the installer may be bundled with Apple's developer tools. You can download those with a free Developer account.

http://developer.apple.com

Let me know if it is included there.

Gimp says that X11 is in "optional installs" on one of the disks. Where can I find this?

Directions are on pages 8 and 9 of the Tiger Install Setup Guide that Apple hosts--Selecting additional packages to install.

I hope you meant "freeware", because otherwise you've been had. The GIMP is free.
