OS X Finder and Adobe CS 2 Help and Nortons utilities suggestions

Hello All

A bit of a newbie to OS X but i have to look after some at my place of employment. I did a course on OS 8 and 9 back in the day but obviously things have changed drastically.

Firstly, i am wondering is there an all singing all dancing equivilant to the Nortons Utilities on OS X? I remember that it used to help with fixing all manner of problems.

The reason i'm asking is that one of the MACS is not reporting recently saved files if the program that is using them is still open; Adobe Indesign CS2 in this case. If i look at the share from Windows i cannot see the file, yet the user is adamant the 'file' 'save as' option has been used.

Also if the Finder is used to browse to the network share location, again the file is not displayed. There are some other quirky problems on this particular MAC using Finder so that's why i asked about Nortons.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

first off..... DONT..... put Nortons ANYWHERE near Mac OSX.... ever... I really cant stress that enough..

Second.. its not clear where your saving the files (or on what) How is your network set up? (mix of Windows and Macs saving on Windows server?)

What Mac and what version of OSX are you running?

DO NOT USE NORTON ON OS 10.4 EVER! I MEAN EVER! Symantec has given up on the Utilities for Mac OS X. There's an official article on on somewhere on the Symantec website.

Adobe recommends saving everything to your desktop first. Then moving the file from there to your server. That tends to clear up these kinds of strange issues.

Actually the completely foolish answer from Adobe is that they do not support using their Adobe apps over any kind of a network. At all!

It's not all singing all dancing, but the very effective program that occupies the same 'space' as Norton Disk Doctor for OS X is DiskWarrior: http://alsoft.com DiskWarrior does one thing very very well--it fixes directory corruption. I would highly recommend it.

If you must have singing and dancing, you can also check out Tech Tool Pro 4.5+: http://micromat.com/index.php?option...d=31&Itemid=83 I haven't used Tech Tool Pro in the last several years, so can't really say anything about it one way or the other. But, again, I'd highly recommend DiskWarrior.

Hello

Thanks for the replies, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I haven't got Norton's and i did read that it shouldn't be run on OSx

Disk Warrior looks great and is on order! Thanks very much for that recommendation.

We still have problems with Adobe programs loosing their last know file saved paths. To explain further, a user will open a file, via file open with an Adobe CS 2 program, then when they go to open another, it will default to their Desktop, or home folder, and not the Windows share and then the path to the file eg. Sharename\drawings\client\review etc etc

This means they have to manually browse to the location which often involves going down through half a dozen folders, which obviously is very time consuming.

Anyone have any ideas on that?

Again, thanks in advance.

So CS 2 doesn't place the open dialog in the last saved folder?
Is the last used folder available from the drop down list of recently used folders?
Are you using Adobe Bridge at all?

A quick workaround is to create an alias on your desktop, or in your Favourites folder, for the folder where the work is kept.

But I use CS2 with no problems like this. Your first problem might be one of not refreshing the new saved file info in the Finder. Try clicking on another folder and then back.

Does the same problem occur if you used the Adobe dialog versus the OS dialog? You can switch between them using the button in the lower left corner of the open dialog box.
