PC-based Network connection wierd

Hello all - I had a quick question for you (hopefully it's quick, anyway!)

A while ago, I had my Windows XP box set up to be the hub of my network. I have an iBook (G4) and I figured out how to get it to connect to my network just fine - filesharing and all that goodness. When I went from a hard line (ethernet cable) to wireless, I had a few burps, but it was still working just fine.

My computer's name is "Shelly" and my workgroup is "Mshome". I'd connect to the network using "smb://Shelly" and all was well.

The I had a flood in my office (nice washing machine accident LOL) and had to take apart my entire office to dry it out and take up the floor, all that fun stuff. When I hooked everything back up, my network was fine - worked as always - BUT I could no longer connect my Mac to my PC using "smb://Shelly"

I can connect using an IP address (my XP box's IP address is dynamically assigned, though - I've set the router to a limit of only 3 IP addresses, but still it's a PITA to try and figure out which IP address my PC is using on any given day so I can connect my Mac to the network) - but I'd *really* like to be able to connect using "smb://Shelly" once more so that I don't have to go through all the "what IP address is it today?" crap.

I don't understand why such a connection isn't working anymore - I find it very odd. But if anyone could enlighten me on why this is happening, I'd be forever grateful.

Maybe you should enable more IPs on the router - say, 12 or so... Also, check the PCs networking settings - if it is on "automatic" and you have such a low number os IPs to go around, chances are the PC is grabbing the same IP as the iBook.

Bear in mind that routers and access points also take up IPs.

Maybe I should have been more clear on this: I changed it to 3 IP addreses just the other day, because I was tired of "fishing" to see which IP address my PC was using on any given day. Before, it was set to the full range (up to "255") and a couple of months ago, I narrowed it down to 50 to choose from.

So no, I know that isn't the problem - but thanks for the thought :)
