VOB files into iDVD??
Hey all,
im a bit of a newbie...i have a question...I have a homemade DVD from a friend who wants me to redo the menu for it...so i extracted the VOB (along with the ifo and bup) files...but iDVD doesnt recognize them. i used handbrake to convert them into mpeg4 files but the image looks pretty pixel-y and compressed. is there a way to convert those vob files so that iDVD can read it as well as have it be the same quality as the original dvd (ie not compressed)?? anyways, let me know thanks so much!!! ~adam |

DVDs have much lower resolution than your computer screen. When you use Handbrake, assuming you use a high bit rate, the resulting mp4 file might look like it is "pixely", but this might be because of the much better resolution on your screen. If you use it in iDVD to burn a DVD and play it on your TV, the quality might come out similar.

I would suggest converting the file using MPEG Streamclip to an NTSC DV file, THEN drag it in to iDVD.

I second that. Use something to convert the VIDEO_TS folder on your home made DVD into a single .dv file, and then you can work on that .dv file in iMovie/iDVD
I did just what you are doing -- redoing the menu for a home-made DVD, not too long ago. I used Visual Hub to convert the video_ts folder to dv, and then brought that into iMovie. |

hey all...
i tried exporting the vob files to dv using mpeg streamclip but it says i need to buy an mpeg-2 playback thing from apple for $20. and then it creates a small file (4kb) with the name of the vob/dv. and i looked into visual hub and it seems you have to pay about the same for that. is shelling out the cash my only option? i think im only going to need to do this once so id really rather not have to pay more money. any ideas would be appriciated. thanks!! ~adam |

Personally, i think Visual Hub is worth the money. It does a lot for a low price. But then again, I do use it almost daily.
