Hello all
My year old powerbook doesn't boot anymore. I was just messing around online and suddenly the screen went blank. I then shut the computer down with a long hold of the power button and tried to turn it back on. All I got was the fans blowing full blast, very loudly. Nothing on screen at all. Occasionally, the machine would appear to start as usual and even do the chime, and I could here what I assume to be the harddrive intialising (a whir up to speed), but it kept doing it again and again, not ever actually booting into OS X. Now, the fan comes on hard and I smell a faint plastic burning smell, which I assume is something on the logic board frying. I now am not going to turn it on again, for fear of damaging other bits and pieces. Since this smell has started, I am thinking probably a loose/busted logic board? Any advice? Any better diagnostics eg a guide to opening this powerbook up and having a look for damage. This logic board was replaced this time last year by a Apple reseller. Any chance I could claim that as it is defective they owe me a new one? Yours in desperation. Thanks Alex |
