He'd had peanut butter for breakfast and she is allergic to peanuts which cause an anaphalactic (sp?) reaction resulting from him kissing her.

I like that one. There's a variation on the story that has him killing her that way. But that answer doesn't fit this fact pattern.

Would he know that she was dead? Could she be convulsing and able to be saved with a quick epinephrine shot?

He turned and knew that she was dead.

She committed suicide by jumping out the window and landing on the car?

You found something that fits the facts pretty well, but it's not what I was going for. There's a lot of extra material in the setup for that simple an answer, don't you think?

Think about what the guy may have experienced when he turned that told him that his wife was dead.

is the kiss relevant to him knowing?

Is the car relevant?

Does turning the key trigger a thought that makes him know?

Have they had any problems with their marriage recently?

Is her death accidental?

What are the three creatures?

A man carrying in a dog with a flee?

Creature #1 = Dog
Creature #2 = Man
Creature #3 = Flee

(I think)

Was the wife alive when he kissed her goodbye?

Was her body lying down?

Can he see a reflection in the window of his car door that might lead him to this assertion?

What are the three creatures?

Are they a husband and wife returning home from the hospital with a new baby? The husband pushes the wife in a wheelchair while she carries the baby. The newborn baby isn't capable of understanding what a building is.

.
Here is the answer to the riddle (don’t ask me which one):

"The reason Santa is so jolly is that he knows where all the bad girls live."

The wife has an incurable, painful disease--she does not have long to live. When making breakfast, the husband purposely leaves the gas on. He hands her a lighter, then goes to his car. When he opens his car, there is an explosion.

OK, the man had to do all the morning chores before leaving for work (which his wife used to do, I would say). His wife is in bed and cannot get up.

Is the wife killed by suicide?

Is the wife killed by murder?

Is the wife killed by accident?

Yes.

No. He turned his body to unlock his car door. He didn't turn the key in the car.

I don't like torturing people. If nobody has gotten the answer by midnight, I'll post it.

I agree with tlarkin. Q&A this way takes time...

Was the accident the fault of the husband?

Was the accident the fault of the wife?

Was the accident the fault of someone else?
