In the game of marbles, you try to shoot your marble at your opponent's marble.

So, could it be that the second man is not shot with a gun, but rather with another marble?

Hmmm.......... not quite sure how to rephrase it. Let me give it a couple stabs though.

Is the marble a collectors item?

is the marble an heirloom?

Is the marble vital to either of their health?

And, on a slightly different note, is the man being killed being executed?

Or perhaps it’s two professors, arguing about an ancient marble at an Egyptian archaeological dig...

Or maybe it’s merely two ranch-owning brothers, Jeb and George Marble, arguing about their family jewel(s)...

The guy who was shot created a defective toy that had the marble as one of its parts. The guy who shot him lost his child who choked to death on the ball.

the answer is yes and no, so try to be more specific about asking certain things is what I was trying to hint at.

The man giving the marble is actually an agent of the CIA posing as a terrorist who has access to plutonium for a dirty bomb. He meets with a terrorist kingpin to make the exchange. It is not real plutonium, but rather a large ball bearing with enough radioactive material to make a Gigercounter dance. They make the exchange, and the agent kills the terrorist kingpin.

This takes place in the past.... the two men were having a duel, and the "marble" was a lead ball used in the dueling pistols....
