Interesting twist, actually. But sadly this riddle takes place in the early 20th century, and people with /\/\4|) l337 s|<i77z were nary to be found. But you're getting your head in the right place, so keep going...

And we have officially exceeded 400 posts!

Most replies to a coat room thread. We need a stats page; most posts to a thread, most views of a thread, most prolific poster (Hayne?).

Oh boy...I had completely forgotten! I'll give you a really really big hint, how about that? Numbers are not always represnted by numerals (i.e. 1,2,3,4), but are also words, therefore...

Ok just to recap;

His sons are named: 3, 8, 9, 10, 13, 30, 39, 80, 89, 90, 98.

His name isn't Everything because he would have to reuse letters
His name isn't Interchangeability because it contains superfluous letters
His name isn't Nineteen Eighty Three
His name isn't Bogie because it wasn't leet

Here are some other results. None of them meet the no superfluous letters rule;

-- "hyperintelligent"
-- "hyperpigmentation"
-- "interchangeability"
-- "noninterchangeability"
-- "pharyngoepiglottidean"
-- "straight-line-frequency"

Hyperintelligent is the correct answer, good job fazstp . That's one of the harder ones I've found.

Anyone else have a riddle?

Just so that I don't have to figure it out each time, could the answer be explained?

Hyperintelligent contains the letters for all of the numbers he used for names by the father, (three, eight, nine, ten, etc), and has no extras. His other answers work as well, but hyperintelligent is the answer I was given.

Hyperintelligent still has extra letters. The minimum set required for the father's name is EEGHIINNRTTY, no P and no L.

Here is an easy one from when I was a kid.
You have a 5 gallon jug, a 3 gallon jug, and a pool of water. How do you get exactly 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug?

Fill up the 5 gallon jug.
Empty it into the 3 gallon jug.
Empty the 3 gallon jug.
Pour the remaining 2 G into the 3 gallon jug.
Fill up the 5 G jug.
Pour it into the 3G jug until it is full.

There will be 4G left in the 5G jug.

Yep you can also fill the 3 gallon, pour it into the 5, fill the 3 again, pour it in the 5 again, and your left with 1 gallon in the 3 gallon. Empty the 5 gallon and pour that 1 into it, then fill the 3 gallon and pour it into the 5 for 4 gallons.

Ok another simple one:
A man is out on a camping trip in the American southwest. On his second day he wakes up and has breakfast. Once he is ready to go he gets on his horse and starts riding. He rides throughout the day with the occasional stop to use the bathroom and eat. As the sun starts getting low in the sky he decides it's time to stop. He take the saddle off his horse, ties it up, and then starts to cook his dinner. After the day's worth of riding two of the horse's legs have covered significantly more ground than the other two. How did this happen?

Essentially yes. He ran around in a circle all day on his horse. The outer two legs going on a longer circumference each time. By the end of the day they have covered more ground than the two inner legs which were following a smaller circumference circle.

Ok, one more simple one I remember from when I was younger.
You have a water pail filled up about 3/4 of the way. You take a 4 lb. Iron ball and drop it into the liquid. Instead of sinking the iron ball floats on the surface.
Why does this happen?
