Was to cord too long? Seems to me if there was no equipment malfuntion, it must still be attached and working properly, but just too long.

You'll have to pardon me for wondering, but last I checked, if you jump off a building while attached to a bungie chord that is too long, the experience will most certainly kill you.

A man goes up the elevator of a high building with the intent to bungie jump off the roof top for an extreme sport thrill. He calculates the height of the building incorrectly and inadvertently makes his bungie cord too long. He jumps off the building as a thrill sport stunt, only to hit the ground with a mortal thud--a surplus of cord next to him.

he didn't jump from the roof. and he did miscalculate but why?

Ok puzzle has gone long enough. A man bungie jumps from the 14th floor of a hotel. Believing that he calculated correctly the length of cord. However, in many hotels in the world, the thirteenth floor is mislabeled due to superstition. He actually jumped from the 13th. hence the cord was too long.

And that is the answer.

Hmm, interesting conclusion to that one. I actually will have to put it in my repertoire (which, by the way, is a really hard word to spell...just spent ten minutes looking it up.)

I agree with fazstp, working the 14th floor into the riddle would have been good to have. That would cause the brain to ask, "what is significant about the 14th floor?" After all, buildings have elevators for just 2 floors or even 12 floors. The idea of the 13th floor never came to mind because of the lack of information.

Here is how I would rewrite it...

"A guy goes up to the 14th floor in an elevator and then goes down. Soon after he's outside the building and dead. What happened?"

I respectfully disagree. To give the 14th floor in the riddle would cause someone to center on that aspect. Given that there also was a movie called 13th floor though I haven't seen it. It's all part of the critical thinking. No one asked if he jumped from a certain floor. I was asked if he jumped from the roof. I said no. I was asked specifically from one of my youth in church if he jumped from the 10th, 11th and then the 12th floor. But then he stopped. If someone asked did he jump from the 13th floor and I said yes. it would have been all but over. What other riddle on this thread did you see that gave specific information such as what floor did he jump from?
what do you say zalister?

Do I have to have an opinion?

I think it depends. I like starting guessing riddles out in a rather vague fashion, then adding hints as time goes by. It's what I did on my (possibly poorly constructed) 20 questions riddle.

In essence, it just depends on how long you want the riddle to go. This I will say, I wish you'd hinted at the floors being an issue before just giving the answer .

I agree with that, but I guess I felt like it had gone on long enough and everyone was losing interest.

Anyway, have you got any more riddles?

Inside a bedroom, a man lies dead on the bed. Next to him, on the nightstand, is an open window and a glass of water.

What happened?

Was the water in liquid form before he died? - No

Was the window open before he died? - Yes

In two more questions, you will probably get it.
