OpenBase - What is It?
Whenever I open up Activity Monitor, I notice that there's an item listed 6 times called "OpenBase" running as PowerPC processes. What is this, and is there a way that I can terminate it if it's not necessary and prevent it from loading upon startup? Currently, if I attempt to terminate any one of the OpenBase processes it simply restarts itself.

It is probably the "OpenBase" database program:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openbase I have read that this was sometimes bundled with the Developer tools and that there is a possible security problem with some older versions of it. You can find out where it is installed by running the following command in a Terminal window: locate OpenBase It might be getting started up via an entry under /Library/StartupItems

Thanks hayne! I found and deleted all traces of OpenBase, and now it's not hogging system resources or slowing down my Mac's startup.

Good. Did you figure out where it was getting started up? Was it via /Library/StartupItems ?

Well, there was an OpenBase folder inside of /Library/StartupItems. However, OpenBase continued to load on startup even after I deleted that folder, so I had to delete every single OpenBase file/folder on my computer to get it to stop loading.
