encrypted .dmg over WebDAV
Hi! I need to backup personal files to a remote server that is not secure. So, I want them to be encrypted on the server. I am *really* undereducated here, so I'd appreciate any help -- I can't seem to find any answers so far!
As I understand it, as long as my storage space can be mounted like a disk, I can use a number of utilities to backup only changed files to that space. As it happens, I have WebDAV access to my server. So I thought that putting an encrypted disk image on the server and accessing it via WebDAV might let my backup utility compare the files on the disk image to those on my drive and add to them as necessary, while keeping my backup data encrypted on the server. Does that make any sense? If not -- does anyone know how I might automatically add changed files to an archive on a remote server while keeping the archive secure from prying eyes? Thanks! |

You might be able to do what you describe. But I have no experience with remotely mounted encrypted disk images.
And it seems to me that unless WebDAV has a secure mode, your data will be flowing back & forth across the internet unencrypted and so is potentially vulnerable. Less convenient but sure to work and to be secure would be to use the brute force method of putting your files on an encrypted disk image on your local machine and then uploading that whole DMG file to the server.
