Ical wont start. other problems too. Please Help
Ok, so I bought a 15 in Macbook Pro for college, and its been working fine for the last month or so.
Then I added some songs iTunes and it started acting strange. Programs would freeze up, and the only way to fix it is to take the battery out. So, i deleted the songs, and now iCal wont start up. Itll go to day, but then just freeze and close. Not only that put my computer momentarily freezes when Im doing normal tasks like saving a word doc. It may be a system error or something, like a bad index file or something. Heres the iCal doc Date/Time: 2006-09-07 18:56:55.871 -0400 OS Version: 10.4.7 (Build 8J2135) Report Version: 4 Command: iCal Path: /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/MacOS/iCal Parent: WindowServer [682] Version: 2.0.3 (1058) Build Version: 64 Project Name: iCal Source Version: 10590000 PID: 976 Thread: 0 Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000005 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x9081c68b CFGetTypeID + 17 1 com.apple.SearchKit 0x91063efb SKIndexInitialize(void const*, __CFString const*, unsigned long, OpaqueIATextAnalysisRef**, unsigned long) + 91 2 com.apple.SearchKit 0x91063804 SKIndexCreateWithMutableData + 60 3 com.apple.calcore 0x99274d27 -[CALIndex createWithData:name:] + 205 4 com.apple.calcore 0x99273244 -[CALMemIndexer createIndexWithData:] + 250 5 com.apple.calcore 0x9922ab23 -[CALStoredCalendarSource initWithBundlePath:] + 351 6 com.apple.calcore 0x991fd574 -[CALNaiveReadWriteSource initWithBundlePath:] + 57 7 com.apple.calcore 0x991fc280 -[CALSourceFactory sourceFromPath:] + 240 8 com.apple.calcore 0x991e467d -[CALCalendarsManager instanciateSources:] + 120 9 com.apple.calcore 0x991e494d -[CALCalendarsManager setupWithSourcesPath:withNodesPath:] + 64 10 com.apple.iCal 0x00035a9d 0x1000 + 215709 11 com.apple.iCal 0x00034e9f 0x1000 + 212639 12 com.apple.Foundation 0x92742259 __NSFireMainThreadPerform + 352 13 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x908565d0 __CFRunLoopPerformPerform + 82 14 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x90823379 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 1213 15 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x90822eb5 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 61 16 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x92f02b90 RunCurrentEventLoopInMode + 285 17 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x92f021ce ReceiveNextEventCommon + 184 18 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x92f020ee BlockUntilNextEventMatchingListInMode + 81 19 com.apple.AppKit 0x93383771 _DPSNextEvent + 576 20 com.apple.AppKit 0x9338335e -[NSApplication nextEventMatchingMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:] + 137 21 com.apple.AppKit 0x9337d0e3 -[NSApplication run] + 512 22 com.apple.AppKit 0x93371037 NSApplicationMain + 573 23 com.apple.iCal 0x00002e57 0x1000 + 7767 24 com.apple.iCal 0x00002cba 0x1000 + 7354 25 com.apple.iCal 0x000c53c1 0x1000 + 803777 Thread 1: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9001aafc select + 12 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x90024b07 _pthread_body + 84 Thread 2: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9000a5c7 mach_msg_trap + 7 1 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x9082369a CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 2014 2 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x90822eb5 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 61 3 com.apple.calcore 0x991aa834 -[CALRunLoopSemaphore down] + 105 4 com.apple.calcore 0x99241a79 -[CALThreadedOperationHandler run] + 253 5 com.apple.Foundation 0x927291b0 forkThreadForFunction + 123 6 libSystem.B.dylib 0x90024b07 _pthread_body + 84 Thread 0 crashed with i386 Thread State: eax: 0x00000000 ebx: 0x9081c688 ecx:0x13e06ac4 edx: 0x00000000 edi: 0xa919cac8 esi: 0x00000000 ebp:0xbfffec98 esp: 0xbfffec70 ss: 0x0000002f efl: 0x00010282 eip:0x9081c68b cs: 0x00000027 ds: 0x0000002f es: 0x0000002f fs:0x00000000 gs: 0x00000037 |

You should try the standard troubleshooting suggestions:
http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/ (see the "My Mac needs help" section) http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...04011205473937 http://forums.osxfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=7269 http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html In particular, be sure to try logging in as a different user to see if the problem exists there. (Create a new user via the Accounts preference panel if you only have the one user account so far.) Also be sure to do "Repair Disk" (different from "Repair Disk Permissions"!) in Disk Utility when booted from the Install CD/DVD. I.e. you restart from the Install CD/DVD, then run the version of Disk Utility that is available from one of the menus there. See this Apple doc: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
