MTV videos: no access outside of the US?

I was trying to download some videos from MTV's site a few days ago. The site blocked my requests. It mentioned something about copyrights and not being able to show this content outside of the USA. Well, I don't know what to say about that. It seems more like an excuse to limit access to people in foreign countries. Any thoughts?

• use an US open proxy
• use p2p
• check out creative commons licensed music and art, walking away from this kind of nonsense is probably the best way to deal with it.

Any thoughts?

On the reasons for the limitation or how to get around it?

It's probably just like the iTunes Music Store. Media companies' contracts are geographical. They have worked out rights for United States. If they do not have an agreement for electronic distribution, royalties, etc. in a certain country, they are going to try and prevent the media from reaching that country, otherwise it is in a legal no-man's land. The iTunes Music Store is only available in other countries to the extent that legal structures are in place. This looks like possible evidence that MTV does not yet have the proper contracts in place so they must try to keep the content within the countries where the legal contracts exist.

I'm not saying it's sane, I'm just saying that's probably how it is.

Slightly different… I have full access to the iTMS from here. I can preview songs, download podcasts, and since I have a credit card which was issued to me when I lived in the USA, I can also buy music if I want to. If I go to the Quicktime trailers page I can also view those with no problem.

Either.
