Fixed window size/position

I'm sure there is a way to do this, but a search of the forums yielded no results...

With some apps, I wish the windows weren't floating.

Example: the "inbox" window in Mail.app. I would love that window to be locked into a position where it took up the whole window, and could be hidden or minimized, but not moved. That would be great.

Does anyone know how to make such a change?
