USB ADSL and Airport sharing
I've got an Alcatel USB Speedtouch ADSL modem connected to my iMac, then the ethernet port connected to the Airport, and then have two laptops which use that as a wireless router.
Under OS 9 this works fine with Sustainable Softworks software. Under OS X, my clients get as far as the iMac, but nothing ever gets forwarded, despite checking ipfw rules to make sure that everything looks as it is supposed to. I check this by trying to ping, avoiding the DNS issue at the beginning. Given that I can also have this exact same setup working under LinuxPPC, why can't I make this work under X? Is there something else I should be checking to verify that I have this setup? Truly flummoxed, and I know that an Ethernet modem is easier, but that's not what France Telecom offers, and given that this exact same setup works on OS 9, this shouldn't be that difficult. btw, I've tried this under both 10.1 and now 10.2 and no luck. TIA! brad |

I'm with Wanadoo and had a similar problem so I exchanged the Speedtouch USB for a Speedtouch Home (ethernet), it will cost your around an extra 90 Euros though. Go to a local FT outlet and say you've had major problems with the modem and want to exchange for an ethernet one. They were quite nice.

90 euros?
Thanks for the info on the ethernet version, but I was kind of hoping that I could find a solution that involved something other than spending another 90, given that I know I could also go out and get a DSL router that works with the USB version as well that's only a little more expensive than that.
Isn't there simply some *nix-y solution that I should be trying to get this to work? |
