I recently encountered a .DMG file that, when mounted, mounted 3 disks. I burned this image as a DVD, and now, when I put the DVD in my computer, 3 Cd's show up on the Desktop. How was this done? I want to know how to do it myself. I tried the partition in Disk Utility, but that only gave me 3 seperate empty images. I'm trying to make an image that mounts 3 disk images. I know it sounds strange, but I'd really like to know how it's done

I just tried it out. Pretty neat!
I can't imagine a reason that one would need a DMG that has up to 10 different partitions on it. Any ideas on possible uses? |

In days of old when blank CD-Rs cost a lot of money, it was a way to fully use all the space on the CD. When you finished with one session you didn't finalize the disc so that you could append later sessions.
Other than this kind of thing, multiple sessions is also the premise behind Custom Hybrid discs that Toast can burn, where one session contains the Windows partition, and another the Mac partition, and parts can be read by both Mac and Windows. Trevor

Thanks. This is really cool. Tedious, but cool nontheless. I just wanted to know how to do it, but I think I found a good reason to use it now:
Let's say you play a lot of games. You can make DMGs of all the CD you have and then burn them all to one DVD. So you'll only need one DVD to play any game you have. So from here, how would you make a single image from this disk? Wouldn't you have to make them seperate? This part doesn't really matter, but I just wonder how.
