Multi-orgasmic; as in managing at least three ecstatic moments within 90 minutes. For I assure you that is what they were. (Never mind the images conjured.) The bliss on French faces afterwards reinforced the impression.

Even so I still don't want them to win.

Just curious, Ole – who would you prefer to win? And who do you think is likely to win? ...now that neither England, Brazil nor Argentina (that surprised me) has proved up to the task?

I’m a strange animal in that respect. I just want to see some good football, and I hope we have some great semis in store for us; which team wins the Cup is tertiary at best – although I would have preferred the USA or an African team. I think that would have been great for the future of the Game.

The odds favour Germany and Portugal, but at this point I have no preference other than seeing a good game of soccer.

France vs Germany in the final:

Quote:
Just in case France gets through to the World Cup finals with Germany, they have announced that they will concede the game 15 minutes in, and the rest of the game against Germany will be played by British and American players.

What a semi-final last night, i felt really sorry for Germany when they went out in the last few minutes of extra time. I'm sure they would have won on penalties.
That game had everything and a wicked twist in the tale as far as germany were concerned with a crule goal from Del piero.
I don't know who I wan't to win now. Every team I support seems to get knocked out. I don't like any of the teams. But i dislike Italy the least and after that display and the mess that their demestic football is in, I think the Italian fans deserve it. I'm not going to be able to watch the final however as I'm off on Holiday to Mexico on Sunday.

Condolances to the Mexicans

.
I couldn’t agree more – that was a fine football game! Both teams bought hard even though the long-held score of 0–0 didn’t reflect that. And I have to admit those two Italian goals were classic!

Ole, please give my condolances, and congratulations, to the Mexicans! If two teams ever both deserved advancement to the next round, that was it. A real pity that they were eliminated after treating us to such a wonderful display of determined football. Had they beat Argentina, they might well have captured the Cup.

Enjoy your holiday!

Watched the France v Portugal game today. Pretty intesnse, especially the last five minutes. Portugal got a corner kick and actually called there keeper all the way accross the field in a desperate attempt to scored! And they almost did, if it wasn't for that pesky off-sides call...

That was an excellent game! As was Germany–Italy.

And Zidane (34?) once again proved he’s quicker, more agile and simply far better than any younger player on the field. In this tournament, he certainly has overshadowed Ronaldinho. Zidane’s mastery of timing is impeccable! Neverteless, this was a team effort.

I’m with the French in this final, although bookmaker odds may well grant an advantage to the Italians. I would like to see them set their scandal-besieged house in order (read: Juventus & more) before they win the Cup.

It would be nice to have a champion not mired in scandal, seems like a rare luxury these days... I'm pulling for France as well, I have a few friends from there, and I like french cheeses. What more reason do I need? Of course I am reading Angles & Demons, and that's set in Italy...so maybe...

Yeah, don't you love the inane logic? I'm cheering for France .

It's not uncommon in cup matches for the keeper to go up for the corners or free kicks in the last few minutes if they are behind, after all what do they have to loose. Also David James (England 2nd goal keeper) was played up front in one game for his club Man City. That was really funny, he nearly scored.
I still want Italy to win and i'm glad that its not just english people who dislike C. Ronaldo

I read an article recently that suggested that people who take dives should be punished after the game is over if it can be confirmed by a video recording. What do you all think of that?

Now that sounds like a political comment if ever I heard one.

Well, after the Yankees and the Limeys had to surrender, white flags flying high, it looks like the Frogs are the only ones still fighting the war.

I think instead of punishing floppers they should combine all types of "football". Make clean hits legal. Make chop blocks, blatant kicks (or stomping on an opponenets marbles, Rooney) illegal. Get rid of those worthless yellow cards and install a penalty box.

What are clean hits and chop blocks. Also there is already a penalty box.
