This stinks!

Ghana is kicking major arse out there, despite their best man being out this game. Brazil was off sides for one goal and have "luckily" saved save a couple other goals. Ghana is dominating the field but will most likely loss, especially now that Brazil was given taht goal. IT'S RIGGED, I SAY!

France has actually beaten another country*? You learn something new everyday. :-D

At half time 1-1 I still think that Spain will win.

There is no silver or golden goal.
I also feel Torres should have had a pen and David Pleat has been somewhat quiet on the fallback front today I feel.

How about bronze? Jk.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew why they dropped that format and went to the shot out. I like the idea of the golden goal.

No Games Today!

I think the Golden goal was scrapped as it was deemed unfair, even if team A scored in the first 2 mins of extra time there is nothing to say team B wouldn't have gone on to score 3 more after that.

Its funny though seeing players wobbling all over the place after playing a full 90mins + 30mins extra and then trying to score a penalty. I would be on my back after 45mins!

They have always had a penalty shoot out after 30 mins of extra time. The extra time started off golden goal (next goal wins) then it went to silver goal (if there is a leader at half time in extra time they win). Now its just play extra time for 30mins. I feel that it is much fairer to have it how it is at the moment.

I can't believe how much it takes out of them, its only another 30 mins, these players are ment to be as fit as a butchers dog. In the FA Cup final the players seamed to die after full time. Are they just fit enough to last 90 mins and then callapse??

But you've been running around, thinking out things, reacting quickly to changing situations, accelerating to get the ball, avoiding people, etc.

Its a very demanding sport if you play at a hard enough pace (which is whats needed at this high level.)

From a quick google on how far exactly footballers run, I came across this page http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/football-nutrition.html where it states this

Quote:
The link between football players and long-distance endurance athletes seems strange at first glance, since football is a game involving sudden sprints and bursts of energy rather than continuous moderate-intensity running, but the connection doesn't seem so extraordinary when one considers what happens during an actual football match. In a typical contest, football players run for a total of 10-11 kilometres at fairly modest speed, sprint for about 800-1200 metres, accelerate 40-60 different times, and change direction every five seconds or so.

From what I've heard from my mates dad (Mick Heathcote - ex-footballer in the UK, played at highest in division 1 I think) it is a very demanding sport.

So yeah, its not just running up and down a field a bit and then kicking a ball to someone. And I think a true footballer is someone like Steven Gerard that can have cramp after 90+ minutes and look like he's just about to collapse, then pull all his strength together and score a cracking goal (FA Cup Final.)

Yer your right, I'm just too used to watching Norwich, who don't more. I don't think most of them have heard of a quick break. They prefer booting it up to Rob Earnshaw who's 2ft tall!

What a climax, I knew Lemann would be the herro as he was for arsenal in the champions league this season on several occations. (except when he was sent off in the final). I am glad that Germany are through as it is always good to keep the hosts in, plus if when england win tommorrow there will be no fan trouble. Heinze went a bit shanny at the end couldn't see why.
Why did Argentina not bring on Messi?? That was the biggest mistake. If I was an argentine I would not be happy with that desisition.

How cool was Ballack, after getting cramp and taking that pen. He'll be a great player for Chelsea next year. It'll be a joy to watch him and Shevchenko in the Prem.

I hated cristiano ronaldo before today, but now I absolutely dispice him. I think that all football fans across the country should boo him next season, even Man Utd fans. To try and get a team mate sent off is very very low. Sven didn't exactly help. Even if we won on penalties, we had no strikers of any use for the semi's and final. Glad to see Sven go and Mclearn come in. On a possitive note Andy Murrey's beating Roddick. He'll probably loos too!

I watched the last third of the France–Spain game at an outdoor café in La Rochell. All the cafés were filled to the brim!

That match was amazing and watching France get 3–1 was amazing. You should have heard the cheers resounding up and down the street! Proof positive that the French are multi-orgasmic!!

You lost me there. Did you mean multinational? Or multicultured? Multi-Orgasmic just brings a bunch of weird images to mind...
