itunes & Compilation CD Artists.

I own a large number of compilation CD's and having thrown them onto my itunes the CDDB server has taken all the single artists tracks from each CD and included them under 'Artist' in the itunes general screen, almost tripling the number of artists I've got listed.
Is there any way of weeding this out so 'Artists' only shows artists with whole albums rather than every one hit wonder I've got...?

Do you mean aside from renaming the Artists field? I painstakingly put any additional artists in the Composer section so it will still be searchable should I ever want to locate that every song an artist has worked on to combat that very issue.

if you don't want to go through that process you could create a Smart Playlist. The options for these are pretty much limitless. As an example, if the the Compilation option has been checked reliably you include all songs that list this to be True or False. If that doesn't suit your needs, there should be some Smart Playlist configuration that does.

there are some applescripts that will move the artist name into the song title I then rename the artist Various Artists and turn on the Compilation Flag

Go to iTunes-->Preferences-->General

Then click the option for "Group Compilations when Browsing." That should do what you're asking.
