Encrypting flash drive

I use a plug-in flash drive a lot and it sometimes has sensitive files on it. Given the ease of losing one of these, i would like to encrypt or protect either the entire drive, or at least specific files. Is there a cheap (free) simpe program for this?

Thanks

I drive I have, and others I have seen have Window's only encryption .exe files that encrypt the partial or whole drive. Being .exe the encrypted part is not readable by Macs, unless run in some type of OS X/Windows system.

Probably the easiest way would be to create a disk image (.dmg) with Disk Utility, about the same size as your Flash Drive and encrypt the image.

Couldn't you also use disk utility to create an encrypted disk image that is saved on the thumb drive and just mount it and save your stuff there?
