I did take one without the flash as I also prefer natural light ... here it is ...

BTW, is it the shadows that you don't find appealing?

Yeah, the harsh shadows kinda didn't rub me the right way. Flash also has a tendency to just wash out subjects. If you want that effect, it's good. If not, then it kinda sucks.

I find it better to compensate for low light with a higher ISO and slower shutter speed. Though I wouldn't attempt handheld shooting with any speed lower than 1/60 (1/40 if you're really still).

EDIT: RonCross: The harsh falloff that the shadows give is a good indicator, and some parts of the picture (at least to my eyes) look slightly washed out.

Aperture + shutter speed can affect your shots big-time.

Hey, should we have an iPhone home-screen thread?

It's the thread that will never die!

It's kind of embarrassing. I long since nuked the screenshot files that are on some early page of this thing. I'm not even sure that server still exists. I do still have a rotating sequence of desktop pix though.

Lower aperture can allow higher shutter speeds, but also blurs everything the camera isn't focused on.

Also, grabbed from my rotation:

I'm grabbing most of my desktops from the /wg/ board on 4chan. (Many people make the mistake of judging 4chan by /b/. There are other boards.)

If you find yourself at the Skitch website viewing this image ... move your mouse cursor over the image to bring down a black menu. Select "Lightbox" to view the image better ...

Who is this?

Out of boredom, I've reverted to Apple Desktops.

NEVER DIE, THIS THREAD WILL

Also, might I suggest 4walled.org for good desktops as well? (Note, some are NSFW, you have been warned.)

I just googled 4walled.org and was presented with a never ending/loading page of beautiful images ... I chose the following as it represents the closet entomologist in me:

Click for large view
- Uploaded with Skitch

I used my newly learned trick ... Shift +  + 4, then tap the spacebar to bring up the camera icon, then place the camera somewhere on the desktop, be sure to stay away from any desktop folders/icons ... you will notice that the desktop picture is highlighted but the folders/icons etc aren't ... click the mouse and voila

Cheers for that tip about 4walled.org

FWIW, if you do the Shift +  + 4, then tap the spacebar and place the camera over any folder/icon, you get this:

Is this a new Leopard/Snow Leopard feature?

Who'da Thunkit?

I don't have a current desktop. The iMac is restoring from Time Machine and the MBP's in the shop for webcam repairs.

I have never used TM ... I wonder if it is really better than the other backup options OR just a different interface and lot's of magical qualities ... is it something each Mac user should try?

PS I use SuperDuper and if I want to restore a file or 2 there is no going back in time experience.

Just try it on an external disk… Wipe out your hard drive, insert the Installer DVD, and after the intro, choose Restore From Backup. DON'T FORGET TO CONNECT OVER ETHERNET - WiFi is incredibly slow compared to a network cable!
