Dreamweaver MX 2004 crashes just after start up
I have read all the posts on this problem, which appears to very widespread.
I upgraded my PowerMac G3 from 10.3.9 to 10.4. It was a clean install, with all important apps, including Dreamweaver, backed up to an external HD first, then copied back to the computer HD after installation. After that, I was not able to open my Dreamweaver MX 2004. It kept on asking for my password. After searching these forums, I found out about the patch from Macromedia, HotFix_OSX_Upgrades_1.039en. I installed it and ran it, and the password bug was solved. I then found my old serial number, opened Dreamweaver, entered the serial number. Dreamweaver then appeared to start up as normal, but then after about 30 seconds, it crashed. It has been crashing ever since. I have the crash log, which I could submit to someone by email if asked to do so. I have three Macs in my house: the PowerMac G3, which has a CPU upgrade card installed and runs 10.4.5; an old G3 iMac running 10.3.9, and a brand new G4 iBook running 10.4.5. I decided to test the ideas proposed by some in these forums that (a) this is a compatibility issue between Dreamweaver and 10.4, and (b) this may be due to a CPU upgrade. I have ruled both of those possiblities out. I copied all the Dreamweaver software over to the iMac with 10.3.9, including the plist, ran the patch mentioned above, entered the serial number, and tried it there. I got the same behavior as on the PowerMac running 10.4.5. I then copied it over to the G4 iBook running 10.4.5. Same results--crashing. What is going on here? Are there any other patches out there that are needed? The crash log is attached, if that will help. Last edited by jslmg; 03-22-2006 at 01:39 AM. Reason: Trying to add an attachment |

The crash log is a Word document - I see you have already been advised not to post Word docs - I am unable to view it.
However, the symptoms described by you see very similar to those in Macromedia's FAQ here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...leasenotes.htm which relates problems with upgrading from 10.2 to 10.3.
I suspect that in copying the application you have neglected to include ~/Library/Application Support/Macrovision/ (where ~ = your home folder) - you can check this. I do not know why the initial copy failed but it may be for similar reasons. Worryingly from your point of view assuming the lack of a patch for the 10.3 to 10.4 the solution appears to be
Note copies of a single licensed Dreamweaver running on multiple machines are probably illegal. Last edited by bramley; 03-22-2006 at 12:04 PM. |
