I have an external Firewire hard drive that i would like to repartition into two pieces, one HFS+ and one FAT32. I have found products on the internet to do this like iPartition, but dont see a value in spending 30 bucks on it, i would maybe buy it if it were 10 dollars. Anyway, is there a way to repartition a disk through terminal or Ubuntu without losing data on the disc?
basic info: i am running 10.4.5. the disk i want to partition is non-system. it is formatted HFS+ into a 55.9GB volume. I want to split this volume in two, without losing data. Any help? |

If you search these forums (e.g. for "partition", or "repartition", etc) you will find some discussion of doing this (with the 'pdisk' command (if I recall correctly)).
But since none of these methods (commercial or otherwise) are without risk, you really need to have a backup of your data anyway. And if you have a backup you might just as well erase the disk and repartition that way.
